By Paulo Murillo | WEST HOLLYWOOD – A fiery Tesla car crash accident killed one person and injured two others in alleged hit-and-run crash in West Hollywood early Monday. KTLA 5 News reports that the crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on the 8200 block of Sunset Boulevard near Roxbury Road, close to the West Hollywood city limits.

It was a fiery scene on The Sunset Strip near the Pink Taco Mexican Restaurant at 8221 Sunset Blvd. The crash took out a Welcome to West Hollywood sign near the city boundary by the Chateau Marmont hotel.

The driver was heading west on Sunset when he lost control of the vehicle first striking a lamp post and then a tree before the vehicle burst into flames.

One person trapped inside the vehicle died at the scene, while two others were able to escape and were taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

The unidentified driver was also able to get out of the vehicle, but he allegedly fled the scene.

He was picked up by another vehicle believed to have been following him before the crash and he was taken to a hospital where he is in critical condition, an LAPD spokesperson said. He has not been interviewed by authorities, but the LAPD said they were able to positively identify him as the fleeing driver.

Witness videos posted on social media show L.A. County firefighters extinguishing the fire and a man helped a woman on the ground near the flames.

The fiery car crash remains under investigation, but reports allege speed may have been a factor in the fatal incident.

After the car fire was extinguished, LAPD traffic investigators put up a tent up around the remnants of burned out vehicle.

A portion of the Sunset Strip was closed in the area during the investigation.
